Half the challenge of being a father today is guiding sons through the minefields of the modern culture that targets them. It's an added layer on top of the normal layers that every father has had to deal with since Adam. Your insights are helpful and encouraging.

Thank you for this. I am the father of two sons, and am appalled by the obstacles an intransigent ideology puts in their path. Fortunately, we recognize it, and know they must overcome cultural hostility to masculine traits. Your insights offer comfort knowing we aren't alone acknowledging the battle being fought. Brilliant article, Rae.

The fact remains that boys imitate & model their adult selves on their fathers, or whichever male happens to be an influence.

Boys are smart enough to discern which behaviours to ditch as they grow older and retain the useful ones. Well, in theory.

As a child, I needed my mom, but I modelled myself on my father.
