After 20 years as a psychiatrist, I am more convinced than ever that the rise in depression, anxiety, and mental illness in general in our society is in part due to the deprivation of the human soul of what is true, good, and beautiful and vast overexposure to falsehoods, depravity, and ugliness.
The pathway to authentic joy is obstructed by 24/7 news cycle of calamity and controversy and the stress of living in an overly technological modern society.
In order to reclaim joy, we must first re-route our thoughts away from patterns of distorted thinking that impede our pursuit of joy while infusing our minds with the pure goodness of truth and beauty in order to create a fertile ground in which joy can flourish.
The path to joy is a continuous journey that takes us within the deepest part of ourselves to find what is authentically human, yet it also leads us to transcend our brokenness as human beings to find joy in the world and through our relationships with others.
I’d be honored if you joined me on this quest to rebuild a foundation where joy can flourish in life by pursuing what is true, good, and beautiful.

There are souls in this world who have the gift of finding joy everywhere, and leaving it behind them when they go. – Frederick William Faber
Interesting story and excellent analogy!
I read this just moments after reading a post by a British evangelical and his take on the NatCon conference in the UK. He asks the same questions as you have concerning Great Britain. Is there any way of sending this to you?
